You never know what someone’s walking through. On the outside, it may seem like life is working perfectly for them. But on the inside, chaos and unknowns reign.

When Josephine* walked into POM that morning, you’d never know the struggles she was facing. There was a calmness about her. But we soon learned that her situation was anything but calm.

You see Josephine* was facing eviction. Her landlord gave her less than two weeks’ notice and she had no idea what to do. As one of our staff members sat and listened to her story, she said “thank you for listening. I’ve been very strong, I didn’t plan to cry today”. But that’s what POM is here for. To be our client’s strength, when their situation seems to be out of control.

Her story included the death of a family member a few years back. And since then, she just hadn’t felt stable. She applied for job after job but, as she explained, “kept missing the mark” and didn’t understand why. After moving in with one of her kids, who’d just had a baby, she felt a brief boost. But, it was short lived, as the arrangements weren’t working out for either of them.

Our staff member explained that the landlord was required to give her more notice and provided Josephine with resources. Then, we set her up with a case management appointment so we could better understand her needs and provide her with rental assistance. As Josephine* thanked us, she said “I feel like I just met an angel”.

In POM’s values, we strive to be “joyfully serving as Christ’s hands”. Sometimes, to our clients, that may look like an angel.
